TWO LIVES by Helen Naylor

1.Look at the front cover and observe it. How do you relate the title to the picture?
I think that the relationship among the title with the front cover is easy. I don’t finished the book yet, but I already think that the book has this book because it talk about two young people that can’t be together.
2.Most of the story takes place in Tredonald, Wales. Find information about this coal mining village.
With the Industrial Revolution ( 17th and 18th c ) , coal mining, a tiny industry in the 15th century, became a national and international industry. Thus, the 19th century was a century of massive expansion for the coal industry in Wales. But the end of the 20th century brought almost universe closure. Find information about 1984 miners' strike
The miners' strike of 1984/1985 was an industrial action that affected very much the British industry
3.Chapter 1: Two young lives
-" Life was not easy for the Thomas family." Why ? ( 3 lines )
Because he only live with his two sons, called Huw and Gareth; he lost his wife and one son; but this isn’t all; he doesn’t find work because he is a drunk and his children are bound to work hard to hold the family.
- Richard Thomas had been killed while fighting in North Africa in 1943. Which war was it ?
The war that he fight was the Second World War
- In chapter 1 we know that Megan and Huw are good friends. Describe the moment
We can know that they are good friends because in the book we can read that they sit together in the school where they go and so because the book so explain that they usually spent a lot of time each other,....
4. Chapter 2 : The friendship continues
-In this chapter Megan and Huw take a decision about their relationship. Explain it. Why do they take it?
They want have a love relationship, but he need hide the truth because Megan knows very well her father and she knows that if he know that she is having a love relationship with Huw he will ban to see never again the boy that she loves.
5. Chapter 3: Romance grows
-"This Saturday was going to be a night to remember." ( page 15 ) Why?
They know that this Saturday is very special for them, because they will be free, he won’t think about the poeple say; he will be alone and they will can do all that they want do together.
6. Chapter 4: Death at the mine / Leaving Tredonald
-After the first four chapters, how would you define the relationship between Huw and his brother?
I think that they haven’t a bad relationship; I know that they have a lot of family problems, because their father don’t work and is an alcoholic, he losed one brother and his mothe when he was young, but a part of this they try to have the best relationship how brothers that is possible.
7. Chapter 6: A surprise find
-Megan finds the letters Huw had sent her 50 years before, in 1946 and 1947. Imagine Meg's father was still alive and that you are Meg. What would you tell him?
I would argue with him, because I’can do all that I want if I don’t bother anyone, I can do all that I want in my private life and nobody can say me what I need to do.
In the first letter Meg asks Huw: " Do you think he wanted me to find them when it was to late?". What dou you think?
I think that wasn’t the intention of Megan’s father keep the letters, but he died and nobody knows his intentions because he never said this to no one. But Megan found the letters and knew the really truth.
8. Chapter 7: Time to decide
-Before leaving Tredonald, Huw told Megan : "in a year ...I'll come back here and we'll get married..." ( pag.23 ); but things turned out to be completely different. Why ?
Because Hug wrote some letters to Megan. But she didn't responded him . Huw believes that she doesn't want to know nothing about him ande she fotgotten him so and he come back very fast.
9. Chapter 8: Telling Beth
-Find some information about Cardiff ( 3 lines ) and post a picture
is the capital, largest city and most populous country in Wales a Country of United Kingdom, In Wales al the people talk two languages, welsh and english, one study say that in 2001, the population were about 305.340 inhabitants.

10. Chapter 10: Writing back
-Meg is about to get married. In spite of that, she lets Huw visit her and her daughter. Why does she act that way? Do you think she does it for Beth or for herself?
I think that the only reason that she did this is because she want to see him soon.
11. Chapter 11 : A new star
-What's Meg's present job?
Meg works as a tourist guide
-Why does Huw tell her " you always were a fighter, weren't you?" ? ( pag.48 )
Because when ,Megan want to be with Huw, he never said the truth to his parents and she always said a lot of lies to doesn’t say the really truth he alwaya kept it.
-Do you think two people can still be in love after 50 years without seeing each other?
I Think that the love can’t be broken two persons can’t see each other, I think that if you think about other person and the other person remember and so think about you, the love can exist for ever.
12. Chapter 17 : Time to go
-Imagie the conversation between Paul and Megan the moment she tells him that she is still in love with Huw. Write it down
Megan: Paul, I need to say you anything vergy important, because if I don’t tell you this, i can’t be quiet.
Paul: Tell me what’s this that is so important
Megan: Before Promise me that you won’t sad
Paul: Ok, I promise that i won’t sad but please tell me now!
Megan: Look Paul! The truth is that I think that I’m loving Huw yet and I will come back with him.
Paul: but you can’t said me this!
Megan: you promised me that you don’t argue about this.
Paul: Okay! I’ll respect your decision , isn’t logical that you live with me if you love other man. I’ll miss you.
Megan: I never will forgot you. Bye Paul
Paul: Bye Honey! I every day I will think about you
13. Did you like the book? Why ? What did you learn by reading it?
I think that was very important for me read this story, because is a pretty love story, but so is very important because I learn some vocabulary that before I didn’t know and this book helped me to think about my personal life.
